Cheerleaders and but(t)s

Every once in a while someone comes along who makes me want to be a cheerleader. If you know me in person take a moment to chuckle, visualize (at your own peril) and be stunned by this confession. What makes me say such things? It's actually a girl at work who I don't know really well http://www.christine-strasser.ch/media/#. In two weeks she's heading off to walk the Way of St. James all the way from France to Santiago de Compostela, all by herself for seven weeks. It's one of or the only item on her bucketlist and she's actually doing it. Living in Switzerland telling people about a project like this naturally elicits loads of buts.
But aren't you afraid? But will you be all by yourself? But are you fit enough? But but but... All these buts are annoying at best and downright scary at worst so I asked if there was something I could do to make her feel great about all of this. To my amazement she replied: "yes there is. We don't know each other well but you're nice so if you could write a few little notes, stupid stuff, funny stuff whatever... I'll take a bag of such notes from my friends and family members and read it on the way." What an awesome and copy worthy idea" I thought. Of course I love to help out with that so as I was walking home from the library I was thinking about things to write. Then it struck me that I wanted to be her cheer-leader: to convince everyone of how cool she was for just doing it, to kick those buts in the butt and cheer her and other people who make their dreams a reality on. Me being me I won't be doing this in sexy apparel and weird props you couldn't for the life of you explain to someone who has never seen them in action but that's okay: it means when the right people come along I can spring right into action and cheer, no dress change needed.
