Just as cool as imagined

At first there's a long wait. Then an instruction video which you watch in a bare, greyly painted room with nothing but a screen. Everybody is staring at it and you feel a bit like an astronaut being briefed. Then a side door opens and you step into the gear room. You put on the special vest and hold the gun in your hand. The teams get marked in differently glowing colours and suddenly everyone dashes into the labyrinth which is made up of high black walls, artificial fog and darkness. The gun makes Star-Wars sounds and although you are not allowed to run all the ducking, turning and dodging drenches you in sweat. You wait or attack and can't help but feel incredibly cool with all that glowing in the dark, James Bond and Mission Impossible soundtrack. The best of all however is how sharing this little adventure rather than say just eating together connects people who either wouldn't have met at all or wouldn't have bonded in that way, even if it was just temporarily. And although I learnt, again, that I would suck at being a secret agent or anything like that my friends and I are great at being kiddies again for a while, marvelling at the sound effects, the futuristic setting and generally enjoying the game.
